big boy pants for your turbo

its a very nice looking piece of hardware. I didnt have the tools so got it installed - about 3 hours according to the workshop. paired with a stage 2 034 tune, it sounds great. it was actually a bit too loud for me in dynamic mode so I turned off the soundaktor with OBDeleven, and now its perfect. in comfort you barely notice any difference, and in dynamic the extra sound depth and crackles are amazing. it used to annoy me that C43s sounded that little bit more aggressive in comparison, but that isnt the case anymore. I dont have any tinny sounding vibrations - which can happen with some cats.

performance wise, its not a massive step up from stage 1 if you already have an intercooler and intake. its a prerequisite for stage 3, which is something I will get around to some day, but if you dont ever plan on going that far its a questionable investment for performance alone. I am running the stock exhaust so I dont know what difference it would make to an aftermarket one sound wise.

one thing that I wasnt expecting, the first run after installation when it heats up some of the chemicals from the heat wrap will burn off - which I know now is completely normal - but it smells like burning plastic. you just need to put your aircon on recirculation for a while until it burns off - only took 1-2 drives of the car for me.

also since this is my daily driver, from a roadworthiness perspective the downpipe has an EU4 200cpsi cat, and I have not noticed any obvious change in smell leaving the car running in the garage for a few minutes, EU6 300cpsi cats will set you back at least another grand, and a catless would obviously stink and be illegal - so this was the middle ground that worked for me.

I also didnt get any CEL driving around in stage 1 for at least 1/2 a day. I would assume most people who fit this would have a mechanism to clear faults, but the less often the better I guess. once you go to stage 2 the CEL is supressed, so it doesnt matter.

034 Motorsport Australia - Audi B9 S4/S5 Stainless Steel Downpipe with Racing Catalyst - 034-105-4045.

The 034 Motorsport Stainless Steel Racing Catalyst Downpipe for B9 Audi S4/S5 is designed as a drop-in replacement for the restrictive factory catalytic converter. The Stainless Steel Racing Catalyst offers increased horsepower and torque throughout the powerband, reduced turbocharger lag, improved throttle response, and an enhanced exhaust note. This upgrade eliminates the primary flow limitation in the factory exhaust system, allowing you to maximize the potential of your turbocharged engine.

Optimized for increased flow and maximum performance, the Stainless Steel Racing Catalyst features a massive 148mm diameter Euro 4 racing catalytic converter in the factory location. This complete drop-in solution includes an integrated v-band flange at the turbine outlet, integrated oxygen sensor bung after the catalyst, integrated 3-bolt downpipe flanges, and a complete gasket/hardware kit to allow for precise fitment and ease of installation. The Stainless Steel Racing Catalyst for B9 Audi S4/S5 vehicles is constructed from 304 stainless steel for maximum durability and corrosion resistance, is TIG-welded, and includes an integrated OE style heat isolation barrier  to minimize exhaust heat transferred into the engine bay.

034Motorsport's Stainless Steel Racing Catalyst was developed entirely in-house on 034Motorsport's Development B9 Audi S4 utilizing the latest in 3D Scanning Technology, CAD Software, and Rapid Prototyping Techniques. Final production units were then tested extensively on track in B9 Audi S4 vehicles before release.

Major Service

Every 60k is a major service - oil and filter, cabin filter & air filter, remote batteries, brake fluid flush, fuel filter, DSG gearbox oil and filter (unless automatic, manual, tiptronic or multitronic), spark plugs and haldex oil.

Additional: Water pump & timing belt and poly belt on belt driven engines should be done every 60k.

Intermediate Service

Every 90k is another intermediate service - same as 30k plus a poly belt / accessory belt.

Replace Haldex fluid every 30k rather than 60k, Gearbox oil change at 40k for DSG is advised. Front and rear differential oils are "longlife" but replace every 60k to be safe.
