Water Pumps & Thermostats - Volkswagen & Audi

Your car's water pump takes water from the radiator and moves it through the motor back to the radiator, where the cycle begins again. It makes sure your motor remains at a constant temperature, no matter the weather.

Some Volkswagen & Audi's have a notorious reputation for failed water pumps, e.g MQB (MK7/8V/8S). When your pump starts to fail you will begin to leak coolant which could lead to your engine over heating! Fix and replace your cooling system if you notice your coolant dropping.

If you own an MQB/MLB car such as Volkswagen Golf MK7 GTI/R, Audi 8V S3, TT, TTS, Audi A4 B.5, A4 B9, Tiguan AD, Passat B8, Octavia MK3 etc it is common for  the factory fitted water pumps & thermostats to fail anywhere from 40K to 100K.

Minor Service - Oil Service

Every 10k is a minor service - oil and filter. Do not follow the factory 15K and go 7k for tuned vehicles.Oil is cheap, engines are not!

Intermediate Service

Every 30k is an intermediate service - oil and filter, cabin filter & air filter, brake fluid flush, remote batteries.

Major Service

Every 60k is a major service - oil and filter, cabin filter & air filter, remote batteries, brake fluid flush, fuel filter, DSG gearbox oil and filter (unless automatic, manual, tiptronic or multitronic), spark plugs and haldex oil.

Intermediate Service

Every 90k is another intermediate service - same as 30k plus a poly belt / accessory belt.

Additional: Water pump & timing belt and poly belt on belt driven engines should be done every 60k.

Replace Haldex fluid every 30k rather than 60k, Gearbox oil change at 40k for DSG is advised. Front and rear differential oils are "longlife" but replace every 60k to be safe.
