Volkswagen and Audi vehicles have notoriously weak ignition systems and require regular maintenance. Generally speaking if you are considering tuning its a good idea to replace or upgrade your spark plugs. You may wish to drop a heat range for stage 2 or 3 tuning and upgrade your coil packs.

As a general rule replace your spark plugs every 60,000 km.

Platinum spark plugs are considered OEM spec, they are designed for long life.

Iridium spark plugs provide more performance than platinum but don't last as long. These are popular in the tuning community.
